Paris 2024 (Olympic Tournament Round-up)

She Kicks reviews a dramatic Paris 2024 Olympic football tournament in which the United States, under new coach Emma Hayes, won gold for the first time since 2012, with extra-time goals from Trinity Rodman and Sophia Smith seeing off Japan and Germany before Mallory Swanson’s decisive strike beat Brazil in the final. Marta returned from a group-stage red card and suspension to help Brazil claim silver, denying hosts France and world champions Spain along the way. Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger starred in a penalty shootout win over Canada to reach the semis, while Canada’s tournament was overshadowed by a drone-spying scandal that saw head coach Bev Priestman sent home. Australia’s wild 6-5 win over Zambia and Tony Gustavsson’s departure also feature.
