Olympics Group E Preview: New Zealand, Cameroon, Brazil

A Group E preview built around Team GB’s three opponents. Former Football Fern Priscilla Duncan and London-born New Zealand coach Tony Readings assess the Ferns before the opening game at the Millennium Stadium, Duncan picking out 22-year-old centre back Abby Erceg, the versatile Ali Riley and finisher Amber Hearn, and noting that a core group has been together since the 2006 under-20 World Cup. Readings admits his British background adds spice and says Team GB will be very organised under Hope Powell. Cameroon coach Enow Nagatchu, preparing for his side’s first tournament outside Africa after a training camp in Aberdeen, is excited but realistic. Brazil, reunited with Jorge Barcellos, are assessed as perennial near-misses who could finally take the medal they crave.
