An eight-page picture-led gallery of the London 2012 women’s tournament, compiled with Catherine Etoe and photographed by Gavin Ellis. It runs from Team GB’s opening 1-0 win over New Zealand in Cardiff, decided by Steph Houghton’s second-half free-kick, through the 3-0 defeat of Cameroon and the 1-0 victory over Brazil at Wembley before 70,000, to the 2-0 quarter-final defeat by Canada in Coventry. Houghton and Karen Bardsley each give a short interview reflecting on the Games. The semi-finals are covered, Japan beating France and Christine Sinclair’s hat-trick for Canada answered by the United States, along with the final, won 2-1 by the USA before a record 80,203.
