Official Kicks: Isla Buchanan
She Kicks, issue 42, July 2017 p.71
Isla Buchanan is sixteen, a Category 7 referee from Perth, and got into officiating through her grandfather, who refereed himself and now attends nine games in ten. She hung up her playing boots in November 2016 to concentrate on it, and misses playing at weekends but finds refereeing keeps her in the game. She officiates from Under-13s up to her own age group and, after a phone call that made her panic slightly, has now taken charge of two amateur men’s matches in Perth – nerve-racking, and among the most enjoyable things she has done. As one of twenty Scottish FA Youth Ambassadors of Change, her aim is to bring more women into refereeing. Her ambition is to referee at the highest level she can reach.
