Nic’s City Success

An interview with Glasgow City’s Nicola Docherty after she was named Scottish Building Society SWPL 1 Player of the Year, an award she places among her career highlights while insisting she can always ask more of herself. The full-back describes a rollercoaster autumn taking in a Champions League defeat to Barcelona, a Scottish Women’s Cup exit, a twelfth successive league title and a late Scotland recall, saying there is no time to feel hurt because the next game matters just as much. She credits grit and determination for the title, notes added pressure each year with Hibernian pushing them all the way, and explains that Glasgow City encourage whichever full-back is on the ball’s side to advance, sometimes leaving her covering for captain Leanne Ross. She calls holding the world champions to 1-0 a measure of Scotland’s progress.
