Three nations parted with their head coaches after the EUROs: Finland’s Anna Signeul, Norway’s Martin Sjogren and, on 10 August, Netherlands manager Mark Parsons. England climbed four places to fourth in the world rankings and the Republic of Ireland reached a best-ever 26th. The final drew a record 17.4 million BBC viewers and 5.9 million streams, the most-watched programme of the year. The FA named Nike its official ball supplier for the professional game and licensed sixty girls’ Emerging Talent Centres, a 59 per cent increase. Emma Hayes marked a decade at Chelsea, FIFA 23 added the WSL, and the WSL’s opening weekend was set for Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Stamford Bridge and the Amex.
