The first news pages of the new season are dominated by the World Cup’s consequences. Pia Sundhage becomes the first foreign manager of any Brazil national team; Vera Pauw takes over the Republic of Ireland; Stephanie Frappart becomes the first woman to referee a major UEFA men’s final. FIFA confirms the 2023 World Cup will be the first with 32 teams, and the WSL is sold overseas for the first time through a three-year deal with Sky Mexico and NENT. Seven England players make the FIFPro World XI shortlist and Lucy Bronze is nominated for The Best.
