Nadine Kessler: Best Women’s Player In Europe

She Kicks, issue 23, September 2014 p.9

Wolfsburg captain Nadine Kessler is named UEFA Best Women’s Player in Europe at the Champions League draw ceremony in Monaco, the unanimous choice of a twelve-strong media jury. The 26-year-old, who led Wolfsburg to a second consecutive Champions League title and the Frauen-Bundesliga crown, beat club-mates Nilla Fischer and Martina Muller to an award previously won by Nadine Angerer. Kessler calls the recognition a surprise and a confirmation that her hard work was on the right track, crediting the team-mates around her. She reflects on a season that began badly and ended in triumph, including the comeback against Tyreso in the Champions League final, and warns that Wolfsburg will not rest on their laurels with Paris Saint-Germain, Rosengard and Lyon strengthening. Berlin, host of the 2015 final, is already the target.
