Interview
Murray’s As Happy As A Hibee (Joelle Murray interview)
She Kicks, issue 57, November 2019 pp.39–42
Joelle Murray says she feels like a fraud when she talks about going to work, because her office at Easter Road overlooks the pitch and her job is running the Hibs girls’ academy. She is also the club captain, still an amateur, and has turned down a US scholarship at 17 and repeated approaches from England and abroad to stay seventeen years at one club. Catherine Etoe’s interview is as much about the structure of the Scottish game as about Murray: the annual dread of watching Kirsty Smith, Lizzie Arnot and Abi Harrison be cherry-picked with no development fee, the new SWPL 1 entry criteria, and her argument that the women’s game should sit under the Scottish FA umbrella. Two caps short of fifty, she reckons on two or three more playing years before coaching.
