Miedema’s WSL Milestone (Vivianne Miedema, FAWSL Record-Breaker)

She Kicks, issue 64, December 2020 pp.16–17

When Vivianne Miedema scored against Tottenham in October she went into the record books. She had begun the day level with Nikita Parris on 49 goals at the top of the FA Women’s Super League’s all-time list; by full time a hat-trick had taken her to 52, in only her fiftieth appearance. Her own favourite remains the long-range strike that secured Arsenal the 2019 title at Brighton, because it was more than a goal – it was the moment of realising they had won the league. Characteristically, she declines to get carried away, saying she will reflect on it when she stops playing but for now will focus on the next game. Pushed on her legacy, she insists a legend is made by trophies as much as goals, and that she is not happy yet.
