Manchester City, Vitality Women’s FA Cup Winners 2020 (team poster)

A double-page poster of Manchester City celebrating the 2019-20 Vitality Women’s FA Cup, won at an empty Wembley on 1 November 2020 after extra time against Everton. It was the club’s second consecutive FA Cup and their sixth in the competition’s recent history, and the photograph catches the squad on the pitch beneath the winners’ arch amid a scatter of silver confetti, most of them sitting or lying on the turf. Because there were no supporters in the stadium, images like this one carry more than the usual weight: they are most of what survives of an occasion nobody was allowed to attend. The poster carries no caption and no player’s name, the squad pictured together as a team.
