Lucy Bronze, 2018 BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year (double-page photograph)

She Kicks, issue 48, July 2018 pp.36–37

A double-page photograph of Lucy Bronze captioned only with her name, her club, her country and the hashtag for the award she had just become the first English player to win. It closes a run of pages in which she appears repeatedly: the news item recording the BBC vote, ahead of Lieke Martens and Sam Kerr (Australia) and a year after her Lyon team mate Ada Hegerberg; the Champions League final report in which she became the first English player to win that competition in its current format; and her own account of watching a goal disallowed, a red card and then four goals in a handful of minutes. Within a year she would be a World Cup semi-finalist with England.
