Lucy Back With Black Cats (Lucy Staniforth interview)

She Kicks, issue 34, April 2016 p.27

Back at Sunderland, where her career began, Lucy Staniforth talks about rebuilding after cruciate ligament injuries to both knees cost her two years. She is frank that she did not reach her own standards at Liverpool and became too focused on the negatives, and says players who have been through the same told her it takes six months to a year to feel satisfied again, so patience and doing the right things matter most. She opens the season with a one-all home draw with Reading in conditions so cold she could not feel her feet for twenty minutes. Playing centrally alongside Rachel Furness, she is being urged by Carlton Fairweather and Mel Reay to take more risks and score more.
