Interview
Lloyd Strikes Gold Again
She Kicks, issue SK10, September 2012 pp.8–10
Catherine Etoe interviews Carli Lloyd, who began the Olympic tournament on the bench but was thrown on when Shannon Boxx was injured early in the opening game and went on to score twice in the final. Lloyd calls it a dream come true and one of the greatest experiences of her life, and is as pleased with her consistency and the dirty work in midfield as with the goals. She recounts Heather Mitts insisting throughout the tournament that she wanted to shine her boot when she scored, and her trainer James Galanis predicting two goals in the final. She describes spending six hours a day training for the ten days before London, and says the United States did not want to leave without gold after losing the World Cup final to Japan.
