#Lionesses: Inspiring a Nation (WWC 2015)
She Kicks Special Edition, October 2016 p.68
A retrospective on England’s 2015 World Cup in Canada, told largely through the players’ own words and images as first published in the magazine’s tournament issue. Mark Sampson’s squad set out to inspire a nation and, after a tentative start, ended with a bronze medal and a first win over Germany. Lucy Bronze describes her thunderbolt against Norway in Ottawa and the odd feeling of having to keep concentrating as a defender rather than celebrate. Jodie Taylor plays down her finish against Canada in Vancouver, saying the ball just dropped for her. Steph Houghton reflects on gaining momentum after Colombia. Karen Carney speaks about an inconsolable Laura Bassett after the own goal against Japan, and Sampson on dusting yourselves down and going again.
