Let There Be Lynn…
She Kicks, issue 61, June 2020 pp.28–31
Chris Brookes interviews the North Carolina Courage forward, the NWSL’s second all-time leading scorer and a three-time champion, speaking as the league prepared to return in a quarantined Challenge Cup in Utah. Williams describes lockdown with housemate and teammate Sam Mewis, passing on the field, a Peloton in the house and some inexpert boxing. She compares Vlatko Andonovski and Paul Riley as detail-driven coaches who both want a high press, the main difference being a front three rather than a two. Omission from the 2019 World Cup squad was devastating, but she kept working rather than sulking and was called in at the end of that year. She recounts a Christmas on loan at Western Sydney Wanderers with Kristen Hamilton and Denise O’Sullivan, credits Riley with turning an athlete into a footballer, and remembers an uncle paralysed playing football.
