Leah Williamson interview: Leah’s Longing For Success (Continental Cup preview)
She Kicks, issue 31, November 2015 p.22
Catherine Etoe interviews Arsenal’s Leah Williamson ahead of the Continental Cup Final against Notts County on 1 November. Not long ago the 18-year-old was handing out tickets to Arsenal Ladies matches alongside her mother at the Boreham Wood turnstiles; now, having joined the club’s Centre of Excellence aged nine, she is bossing the midfield. Ankle injuries have restricted the former England youth skipper this term, two serious problems taking four months out of her season, a frustration she says has made her stronger and taught her to appreciate her football. Williamson, the previous season’s Continental Cup player of the tournament and PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year, played every minute of the run to the 2014 final and is eager to add a trophy. She rates Arsenal’s new recruits highly and plans a year out from study to live as a professional.
