Klasse Of ’22 (Laura Freigang interview)
She Kicks, issue 74, July 2022 pp.50–51
Two pages with the Eintracht Frankfurt forward, cast as the brightest of a new German generation arriving after quarter-final exits at EURO 2017 and the 2019 World Cup fell short of the eight-time champions’ standards. Laura Freigang’s associations with England are football, tea and The Queen, though she lived just outside London for a year as a one-year-old. She watched Germany lose to Japan at the 2011 World Cup and cried. On Frankfurt she is thoughtful about what the merger with the men’s club changed – a Europa League run, trips to Barcelona and Sevilla, and a sense of belonging to something bigger – and reports being recognised while grocery shopping in a mask, which she takes as a measure of how quickly attention has grown.
