Kicking in Pink

Marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month, She Kicks explains that it is again donating proceeds from magazine sales during October to Breast Cancer Care, and uses the charity’s association with pink to gather players who wear the colour. Rachel Wakefield of Nottingham Trent Women’s Football Club describes a pink kit worn since 2011, chosen because no other university had one, and a new partnership with Notts County Ladies. Tracy O’Hara of Team Balders, a Merseyside five-a-side side named for Clare Balding and made up largely of police officers, links pink to solidarity between the sexes and recounts a charity zip wire in Liverpool. Fourteen-year-old goalkeeper Lauren Halliday of Skipton Town Juniors admits pink is her only pink garment. The piece stresses fundraising, self-checking and normalising discussion of the disease.
