Kerys Kicks
She Kicks, issue 70, December 2021 p.25
Birmingham City’s Kerys Harrop marks the magazine’s 70th issue and 25th year with a nostalgic View From The Field column. Now with 15 years in the top flight behind her, she thanks the team for the exposure they have given the game, and recalls reading She Kicks and Fair Game on a coach back from a match with her Birmingham City Ladies Under-14 teammates, and an article about Kelly Smith’s playing days in America that gave her a role model and the ambition to turn professional. She remembers one of the earliest finals she attended, Arsenal against Charlton at Nottingham Forest, the first time she had seen more than a few hundred people at a women’s game, an editorial note recording the then-record crowd of 24,529. She previews the 50th Women’s FA Cup final and Tottenham’s strong start.
