Kelly Smith: Team GB

She Kicks, issue 9, July 2012 pp.18–19

Claire Forrester interviews Kelly Smith as she prepares for an Olympic tournament that at one point looked beyond her. Smith says it is another big event in a career full of them and that getting the opportunity in its latter part will be amazing. She admits she was definitely worried about running out of time before selection, having played only twenty minutes of club football because of a broken leg, and that doubt was always at the back of her mind. Hope Powell and the medics sent her for an intensive rehabilitation week at Bisham Abbey, as they had for Faye White and Fara Williams before the last World Cup, which eased her mind. She names the 2007 World Cup as her best tournament and hopes to put the last one behind her.
