Keeping Upp With The Jones
She Kicks, issue 87, November 2024 pp.27–31
Wales international Carrie Jones discusses her surprise summer move from Bristol City to Swedish side IFK Norrköping, her career’s first switch abroad. The 21-year-old, once too young to play for Cardiff City Ladies while simultaneously eligible for a senior Wales debut at 15, explains her ambition to become a more attacking, on-the-ball player after spells at Manchester United and Leicester City. She reflects on settling into Swedish culture and language lessons, adapting to a mid-season arrival, and the guidance of senior Wales teammates Angharad James and Sophie Ingle during her own rapid rise. Jones also discusses life under new Wales boss Rhian Wilkinson, her enduring friendship with former Manchester United teammate Hayley Ladd, and the culture shock of a new Damallsvenskan chapter.
