Jen O’Neill leads on the FA’s announcement that the WSL will revert to a winter season in 2017-18 after a shortened Spring Series in 2017, calling the switch brave and the most logical decision for the game while warning of early problems with facilities and attendances. She congratulates Germany on Olympic gold in Rio and thanks the BBC for showing every game live. She reports from Monaco, where she again sat on the European Sports Media jury for UEFA’s Best Women’s Player and where Ada Hegerberg was, she says, absolutely the right recipient. She marks the team’s twentieth year of publishing and says goodbye to news editor Wilf Frith after two decades of compiling news, fixtures and results.
