Interview

Katie Crosses the Ocean (Katie Chapman)

She Kicks, issue 2, April 2010 p.23

Cath Etoe interviews Katie Chapman as the England midfielder leaves for Emma Hayes’s Chicago Red Stars on a two-year contract, days after scoring the winner against Spain at Millwall, the club where she made her first-team debut at 14. Chapman, 27 and newly married, describes being nervous but excited about moving the whole family: husband Mark, who holds a level two coaching badge, will coach and look after sons Harvey, seven, and Riley, 20 months, and the club has found them an apartment with a pool and tennis courts. She believes American scouts watching Euro 2009 made up their minds, names scoring more goals as her priority, hopes to settle in midfield rather than centre-half, and looks forward to playing with Karen Carney again. She will be sad to leave Arsenal, where she would return to finish her career.
