She Kicks, issue SK14, June 2013 pp.22–24
Tony Leighton talks to the Birmingham City and England midfielder as she battles to be fit for Euro 2013 after rupturing ankle ligaments in the Cyprus Cup final win over Canada. Karen Carney, 25, spends ninety minutes a day in a buoyancy suit in the pool, telling curious onlookers she is training for the Aqua Olympics, and says she has come back from worse. Euro 2005 and a scoring Euro 2009 make the tournament special; she counts five consecutive major finals. Winning the FA Cup with her home-town club was the best day of her life, and she regrets missing the defence. She points to Kirsty Linnett, Mel Lawley and Coral-Jade Haines among the youngsters, and is completing a masters dissertation in sports psychology.
