Jill Scott talks by video from Team GB’s base in Japan, at her ninth major tournament and her second Olympics. The flight over coincided with England’s men’s semi-final, watched on intermittent wifi, and the squad could not move about the cabin. In Japan they are not allowed out: a thirty-metre balcony, screened tables, and you stay with your roommate, which for her is Carly Telford. She admits she will struggle without the beanbags and big screen of previous camps, and has given herself the title of social rep. She is candid that the 2012 side played to the occasion too much before losing the quarter-final. She has left a coffee shop, Boxx-2-Boxx, behind, and brought coffee and takeaway cups for the girls.
