Interview

Jess Clarke

She Kicks, issue SK13, April 2013 pp.22–23

Tony Leighton talks to Lincoln Ladies winger Jess Clarke, the 23-year-old who scored in England’s 4-2 Cyprus Cup win over Italy and produced the touchline trickery that set up Rachel Yankey’s winner in the final. Clarke rates the team’s form pleasing apart from the 4-4 draw with Scotland, and relishes beating Canada after the Olympic defeat of a largely England Team GB: this time England started far better, kept pressing, coped with the formation and were solid in every area. She looks ahead to the Rotherham rematch on 7 April and to Euro 2013, stressing that nothing is guaranteed and club form will decide who flies to Sweden. On Lincoln she welcomes new manager Rick Passmoor, whom she knows from Leeds Carnegie, praising the ambition, passion and drive that have the squad buzzing.
