Introducing the FA Women’s National League Archive

She Kicks, issue 90, July 2025 p.57

A single page introducing the new FA Women’s National League Archive, a history project whose initial focus is the League’s first two decades from 1991/92. She Kicks sets out what the archive covers: an almost entirely amateur competition that developed players and drew the first green shoots of media coverage and commercial investment, the iconic Doncaster Belles as inaugural champions, Arsenal’s decade-long dominance, and the brilliant but now near-forgotten Croydon side that twice won the League and FA Cup double. It picks out that opening season’s League Cup final, Southern Division Arsenal beating top-flight Millwall Lionesses 1-0 at Knowsley United’s Alt Park Stadium, and traces where those clubs stand now, with Millwall in regional football and Knowsley renamed Liverpool. Compiled and written by journalists Jen O’Neill and Tony Leighton.
