International Action: Wales at the 2016 Cyprus Cup

She Kicks, issue 34, April 2016 p.17

Wales finish the eight-team Cyprus Cup without a win, drawing with Finland through goals from Kayleigh Green and Chloe Chivers and with Poland through a Helen Ward strike, losing one-nil to the Czech Republic and then going down to Hungary in the fifth-place play-off, where Fanny Vago’s last-gasp winner cancelled out seventeen-year-old substitute Charlie Estcourt’s seventy-fifth minute leveller. Manager Jayne Ludlow calls the competition fantastic for the squad because it gave valuable international minutes to young players, three of them sixteen years old. She praises outstanding performances throughout but identifies concentration and composure in the closing periods as what cost her side results, and says the team developed hugely on and off the pitch.
