International Action: the last Euro 2017 qualifiers of the year
She Kicks, issue 32, January 2016 pp.17–18
The last week of November brought a glut of Euro 2017 qualifiers and mixed fortunes for the home nations. England, fresh from a goalless friendly draw in Germany, found it hard going in horrendous conditions against a resolute Bosnia-Herzegovina before substitute Jill Scott headed a late winner. Wales put four past Kazakhstan without reply in Haverfordwest, including a Helen Ward hat-trick, but could only draw in Israel. Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland were beaten heavily by Switzerland and Spain, though Rachel Furness marked her 50th cap and the captaincy with a stunning long-range strike in the 8-1 defeat. The biggest margin belonged to Group 1 leaders Scotland, who kept a perfect record with a 10-0 win over Macedonia.
