International Action (February 2023 FIFA Window Gallery)

A picture round-up of February’s FIFA window, from the Cup of Nations to the SheBelieves Cup and the Tournoi de France, taken as programmes built towards the summer’s World Cup. The last three places at Australia and New Zealand 2023 went to Portugal, Panama and Haiti in the intercontinental play-off, making them the sixth, seventh and eighth nations to debut at the finals. Marta returned as a substitute against Japan, her first game after an ACL injury, and assisted Debinha’s winner within minutes. Cortnee Vine leapt on Clare Polkinghorne after scoring in Australia’s 3-2 win over Spain; Hina Sugita and Christine Sinclair swapped shirts; France won their own tournament in Angers. The USA took a sixth SheBelieves Cup, and the printed world ranking has them top.
