Ifeoma Dieke: Team GB

She Kicks, issue 9, July 2012 p.16

An interview with Ifeoma Dieke, one of two Scottish players in the Team GB squad, born in the United States to Nigerian parents, raised in Cumbernauld and with club football behind her in the United States, Scotland, Sweden and Cyprus. Dieke says she was catching up on emails after breakfast when Hope Powell called, and was calm outside but buzzing inside, texting her brother and sister in Nigeria. She never dreamed of being an Olympian and calls it pretty cool and a unique opportunity. Her Swedish club Vittsjo GIK are third in the table, better than anyone imagined for a newly promoted side. She looks forward to training again with former WPS team-mates, and explains that she answers to Iffy in Britain and Effie in the United States.
