Richard Payne interviews Scotland defender Kirsty Smith as Hibernian give Glasgow City their first credible title challenge in almost a decade. Smith says she is glad to be part of the most exciting season in Scotland for years and that joint-top is as good a position as they could ask for, believing the squad has the talent and motivation to win the league but must play to its full potential in every remaining game. She credits a solid team foundation, knowledge of each other’s strengths and weaknesses, competition for places and a total team effort including coaches and background staff. Describing the two titanic tussles with City as intense and nerve-wracking, she admits Hibs led in both without winning and that second-half performances could improve, and welcomes a possible second Champions League place.
