Hey You, It’s Issue 52! (Editor’s Letter)

Jen O’Neill writes as She Kicks prepares to travel to the United States to follow England at the 2019 SheBelieves Cup, with a strong squad whose selection has caused debate at home, and similar questions asked of Shelley Kerr’s Scotland. She argues that passion about selection is healthy but that coaches see far more of fitness, chemistry and squad balance than any observer does, and says she will ask questions and still respect the decisions. She marks the EURO 2021 qualifying draw and notes that England, as automatic qualifiers and hosts, will extend an unbeaten qualifying run stretching back to a 2002 play-off defeat by France. The letter closes with tributes to the German forwards Kat Lindner and Heidi Mohr, both of whom died before this issue went to press.
