Green’s Goals (Kayleigh Green interview)

The image everyone remembers is Phil Neville clutching Kayleigh Green’s leg as cramp took her down against England, and she is happy enough with the jokes because she had run and run and so had everyone else. Since then she has scored four in qualifying, including two in a 3-0 win over Russia that she says was the moment everything Wales had been building clicked – they do not, she insists, want to be known for parking the bus. She left Yeovil for Brighton specifically to work with Hope Powell, who will not let anyone switch off for a moment. Between times she took a plumbing qualification, because she had no full-time contract and needed something to do.
