Great Scotts! (Jill Scott & Alex Scott)

A joint feature on the two England players named in the FIFA All-Star team at the 2011 World Cup in Germany. Jill Scott calls that selection probably her biggest achievement to this day, recalls beating eventual champions Japan convincingly in the final group game and the cruelty of going out on penalties to France, and says her tournaments never merge because every detail sticks. She explains Hope Powell telling her she needed to become obsessed with the game, advice she dismissed at 21 and now understands, and why leaving Everton for Manchester City after seven years was a risk worth taking. Alex Scott’s section revisits archive answers about training alone in a park with her dogs stealing the cones, the fish finger sandwich, and her mother Carol’s pride.
