Good Cause Spurs On England Legends (2017 FAWPL Charity Trophy match report)
She Kicks, issue 43, September 2017 pp.47–49
Tottenham, newly promoted to the WSL, beat an Ex-England Allstars side 3-1 in the third FAWPL Charity Trophy at Bishops Stortford, new signing Lauren Pickett marking her debut with a second-half hat-trick before Ellen Maggs pulled one back from a penalty. The England side, containing more than a few players in their fifties, lined up wearing ‘8 GORE’ in memory of Sylvia Gore. Pauline Cope-Boanas took the player of the match award and, she claimed, the best cheering squad. Maggs later confessed the penalty was a dive agreed in advance with referee Lucy Oliver, then explained how she outguessed the goalkeeper by shaking both her hands. Lindsay Johnson called playing alongside her childhood idol Karen Walker a joy, and expected to pay for it the next day.
