Goalgetter: Cole’s Goals (Naomi Cole, Crawley Wasps)

She Kicks, issue 63, October 2020 pp.46–47

Crawley Wasps were top of the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division when the 2019-20 season was suspended, after back-to-back promotions in 2018 and 2019, and their captain Naomi Cole was the club’s leading scorer despite not being a striker any more. She is realistic about the season that was taken away – it would be silly, she says, to aim for anything less than the title now, but the team are no longer underdogs or unknowns. Her goals come mostly with her right foot from around twelve yards, though a deeper midfield role has brought a few from outside the box. Her favourites are a free-kick against Yeovil Town, an England Under-17s goal against Greece, and one from the halfway line straight from kick-off in her last game for Lewes.
