Glasgow’s Gambian Adventure

She Kicks, issue 32, January 2016 p.40

Scottish club Glasgow Girls FC completed a historic tour of Gambia, closing with a match against the Gambia women’s national team on 24 November at the Serekunda East mini stadium in front of 2,500 fans. It was the first time in three years the Gambian squad had played, and the first time they had faced opposition from outside west Africa. Three club fixtures preceded the international: a 2-0 defeat to Red Scorpions at Serekunda East before 3,000 spectators, a 2-1 win over Jeshwang United on a sand-based surface at Brufut school ground watched by over 1,200, and a third match against Interior at Brikama in front of another 2,500. The tour was organised by Adventure Kicks, whose FIFA-licensed match agent can procure recognised fixtures.
