Interview
Girls With Their Games Faces On: Steph Houghton
She Kicks, issue 9, July 2012 pp.13–14
An interview with Steph Houghton in the magazine’s Games Faces feature on Team GB players. Houghton says being called an Olympian gives her goosebumps and distinguishes the Games from a World Cup, describing it as a stand-alone event where sportsmen and women join together as one team. Like Jill Scott she names Kelly Holmes, winning double gold at Athens in 2004 after overcoming injury, as her favourite Olympic memory, and is very, very excited about playing at Wembley. Asked about playing in virtually every position for England, she jokes she could give housemate Carly Telford a fight for the goalkeeper’s shirt but is put off by the diving at feet. She says she will play wherever Arsenal, England and Team GB ask, and that her family will travel to Cardiff and Wembley.
