Interview

Gill Coultard: 1st to 100 Caps

She Kicks Special Edition, October 2016 p.21

An interview with the Doncaster Belles and England midfielder who became the first England player to reach 100 caps and finished on 119, a record for an outfield player until Rachel Yankey passed it in 2012. Coultard names the 100th cap as her proudest achievement, an England career stretching from 1981 to 1997 taking sixteen years to reach it, marked with a silver cap at a home fixture at West Ham and later a solid silver lion inscribed by the FA, though a golden cap had to be replaced after her surname was spelled with an h. She recalls being taken to Norway for the 8-0 defeat without playing before being told her career was over, a guard of honour in her last Belles game, and going to the 1996 title decider with Linda Whitehead.
