Futsal Focus: Manchester Futsal Club
She Kicks, issue 27, April 2015 pp.38–39
Simon Wright, chairman of Manchester Futsal Club, describes a club formed in 2006 that added a women’s section in 2014 where none previously existed in the city, and now has around 200 members across youth, women’s and men’s programmes plus a youth academy coaching over 120 five to twelve year olds weekly. It runs a ten-team adult male league and an eight-team women’s league. Wright is blunt that there is currently no formalised structure for women’s futsal in England and no mainstream national team, and that a connected pathway will require the FA to act if it is serious about growth. He points to the England Deaf Futsal team’s European bronze as proof the country can compete, and urges new players to contact their county Women and Girls Officer.
