Football Be Thine! It’s SK69! (Editor’s Letter)

She Kicks, issue 69, October 2021 p.3

Jen O’Neill opens on abundance: the weekend of 4-5 September was the first of 2021 with all six tiers of the English women’s pyramid in action, the first WSL game on BBC One drew 800,000 viewers with 100,000 more on iPlayer, she has signed up for Sky Sports, and fans are back. She enjoyed the Olympics, was devastated by Team GB’s exit to Australia, and wanted Sweden to take gold. On the issue’s contracts investigation she is explicit that the magazine will not chase what individuals earn, calling it delicate and a bit grubby. She sets the optimism against the plight of Afghan women players and the prejudice social media still exposes, fifty years after the FA lifted its ban, and marks She Kicks reaching twenty-five years.
