The final report, printed either side of the poster spread. Spain won 1-0 at Stadium Australia in Sydney on 20 August, Olga Carmona drilling in the only goal on 29 minutes of a surprisingly open game in which Lauren Hemp had earlier hit the bar. Mary Earps’ save from Jenni Hermoso’s second-half penalty briefly suggested a way back that never came. Carmona, named Player of the Match, describes a dream fulfilled; the page notes, without dwelling on it, that she learned of her father’s death only after the final whistle. Earps reflects that the Golden Glove was not the trophy she wanted, and Sarina Wiegman calls it only her second defeat in 39 games.
