FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup France 2018: Groups and Competition Facts

She Kicks, issue 48, July 2018 p.44

The ninth Under-20 Women’s World Cup opens in Brittany on 5 August with sixteen teams including the holders North Korea, and England drawn against them, Mexico and Brazil. She Kicks sets out the groups alongside the competition’s records, and they make a case for how much has already happened at this age level: thirty-five nations have reached a finals, only four have been to all nine, Germany lead the all-time ranking, and Sydney Leroux played at fourteen years and six months. England’s own record is modest – two wins, six draws and six defeats, with quarter-finals in 2002 and 2008 their best – and their leading scorers are Katy Ward and Toni Duggan, on three each.
