Faye White: Player Interview

She Kicks, issue 9, July 2012 pp.28–31

A long tribute interview with Faye White, retiring from international football ahead of the birth of her son and due in October. White talks about the mental work of coming back from repeated serious injuries, sticking her rehabilitation programme on the kitchen cupboard and telling herself she knew the process; about playing on with a broken nose in 2007 and a fractured cheekbone in 2009 because the fear of failure was worse; and about the World Cup penalty miss against France as her worst memory, one she would still take again as captain. She names Birgit Prinz, Inka Grings and Hanna Ljungberg as her toughest opponents and is glad she never had to mark Kelly Smith. She will cover the Olympics for the BBC and has texted Casey Stoney with her support.
