FAWSL Quick Kicks: Brooke Chaplen

She Kicks, issue 60, May 2020 pp.20–21

A ten-question Quick Kicks Q&A with Reading’s attacking midfielder Brooke Chaplen, who signed a contract extension in February 2020 keeping her at the Royals until June 2021. The 31-year-old describes herself simply as hard working, picks Yolanda Adams’ I Believe from the Honey soundtrack as the team’s run-out music, and says she watches football every day when it is on television. She names cricket as the sport she would have turned professional in, a World Cup or Champions League final as her dream ticket, and the Wattbike as the session she would inflict on teammates. Asked which player she would sign, she chooses Chelsea’s prolific Beth England, conceding she would have to bench herself. Her one regret is tearing an MCL days before a Women’s FA Cup semi-final against West Ham. A fact panel records her Portsmouth, Chelsea, Everton and Sunderland spells and her England youth caps.
