FAWSL Head-to-Head: Opta Stats

A single page of Opta head-to-head data comparing three players featured elsewhere in the issue, drawn from the 2012 FA WSL season because the new campaign is only a game or two old. Millie Bright of Doncaster Rovers Belles, Rachel Yankey of Arsenal and Laura Del Rio of Bristol Academy are set against each other across attacking, passing, duels, crossing, dribbling, defending and appearances. Three findings stand out: no player blocked more shots in 2012 than Bright; 26 of Yankey’s 27 shots came with her left foot, a higher proportion than any other player; and Del Rio’s 44 shots were more than any other player managed that season. She Kicks presents the figures as a hint at each player’s strengths and role within her team rather than a ranking.
