Fans’ Gallery (UEFA Women’s EURO 2022)

Two pages of supporters, and an admission from the magazine that it could have filled several issues over with photographs of fans at EURO 2022. What survives is a deliberately random selection: face paint and flags, replica shirts from most of the sixteen nations, families, older supporters and very small children, a Kelly Smith tribute placard, a Fans’ Embassy photo frame and a great many bucket hats. Nobody is captioned; the images are credited to various photographers for Sports Press Photo, to jamesprickett.co.uk, Ann Odong and Jen O’Neill. Readers are invited to spot themselves and pointed to the tournament fan galleries at jamesprickett.co.uk, where the images could be bought. Taken with the vox pops on the preceding page, it is the issue’s clearest attempt to document the crowd that made the tournament rather than only the players who won it.
