FA WSL Fast Fives: Katie Stengel (Liverpool)

The magazine’s two-half questionnaire, put to Liverpool’s American forward alongside her main interview. Katie Stengel reckons she is playing some of her best football, in a good place mentally and physically and finally confident on and off the field. The shirt-number answer is a potted history of her influences: nine as a child because everybody was obsessed with Mia Hamm, twelve at college because of Thierry Henry’s early years, then 24 at Utah because only high numbers were left, kept because a younger cousin adopted it. Her biggest strength is finishing, worked on from every angle since childhood; she was happiest at Wake Forest; and her talent outside football is planning, to the point of building friends a PowerPoint of coffee shops and hidden gems.
